JESUS CHRIST+JESU KRISTE+YESHUA HAMASHIACH+JESUS CHRISTUS+JESU KRISTU+ISOUS HRISTOS

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophesy and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. REVELATION 1:3

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." REVELATION 11:3

He who testifies to these things says, " Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. REVELATION 22:20-21

+++

Everyone, has the responsibility to find the truth for themselves. What is stated below, must be researched and verified, so that every individual can then decide to accept, or discard it as myth. The only truth is God the Father, the Son our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Read the Bible, pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and our Lord Jesus Christ will not abandon you, but will place the truth in your heart.

+++

We must not try to copy the world, but be different to it, as the example set by our Teacher, our Lord Jesus Christ. Being the same as the world, sharing its base values, being part of the fashion trends, is all part of Satan's system (Sex changes that are taking place ever more frequently and therefore not knowing anymore who is a man or a woman). The Pope of Rome is one of Satan's instruments (the Papists have immense power and wealth, our Lord Jesus Christ was humble and owned nothing). Talmudists/Zionists want to rebuild Solomon's Temple and proclaim their own false king of the world (there is only one King of the Jews and Orthodox Christians and that is our Lord Jesus Christ). Their power base is the U.S.A (Superpower of the world). They contol many governments, banks, newspapers, television stations (the media in general), etc. We must not forget the very elusive and cunning Masonic Lodges which form part of Satan's means to spread anti-Christian and heretic information. Television and video has been one of the most powerful tools of Satan, which has ruined the ethics which sustained our youth and the family unit. With pornography in all its forms, men have been misled and subsequently their women, a whole generation of our youth and their families have been devoured by Satan. We have forgotten about God, the Bible and prayer and have allowed ourselves to go down the road to hell and have fallen into Satan's trap (in other words we are slaves to flesh and our desires). Hedonism is the aim of humanity.

The group that is attempting to rule the world, consists of three member countries, U.S.A, Europe and Japan (3 presidents). Their central control, consists of 32 members (of the 29, 8 are Americans; 9 from Japan; 12 from the European Union (contolled from Belgium/Luxembourg). Head of the 3 member group is Rockefeller (his head quaters is in Rhodes, Greece; his specific influence is in the U.S.A and E.U). Whoever does not obey the orders of this group are murdered. Death is the penalty for disobedience. Another Satanic "club" is called, Bildeberg. They can destroy any government and put a new one together again. They can make a country vanish and create a new one too. 200 members, which include intelligence agencies (CIA; BIA; BND (Ger.); SIB (Ital.); SPELA (Fra.)). There are members who are involved with NATO and hold important positions in the US administration, etc. They hold an extremely harsh stance against the East, especially with Russia because of its Christian Orthodox heritage. They exterminate/demolish any opposition.

An enemy going back thousands of years is head quatered in China (the Himalayas/Tibet). The Seljuks come from that region, who are the ancestors of the Turks, who attacked and oppressed Christian Orthodoxy in Asia Minor and Greece. The Turks/Jews have tried many times to wipe out the Greeks and Christian Orthodoxy. They call the Greeks and Christian Orthodoxy, the people of the "Blue Trigramaton" (which is refering to the Holy Light that emenates from our Lord Jesus Christ's tomb). The roots of martial arts is that region spoken of above. Martial arts are Satanic and anti-Christian and yet has our youth spellbound under the innocent guise of sport/fitness. In the Himalayas there is a glass pyramid (Sambala), it has many entrances. This is where the White Brotherhood is based. It's aim is to destroy all the world's religions except its own. It has more power than the U.S.A. It has more resources at its disposal than all the governments in the world. It has infiltrated and controls many governments and religions (Roman Catholics, Protestants and Judaism). The First and Second World Wars were masterminded by them. They are going to start the Third World War too. The White Brotherhood works with the Bildeberg club and all the others. They are assisted by the Zionists. They created Hitler and introduced the Swastika (broken cross, that is what it means). Hirohito of Japan was responsible for a massive bloodbath, but he was not punished like the others, after the Second World War because he was a member of the world ruling 3 member group mentioned above. Grey Wolves (Turkish Muslims), are connected to the White Brotherhood. Only Grey Wolves members may rule Turkey. They must always mantain a harsh stance against Greece/Christian Orthodoxy (Turgut Ozal, was exterminated for his softer stance).

The White Brotherhood want to destroy the followers of Jesus Christ. They call His followers, bipods or two-legged ones. Their methods are many: thirst, hunger on a worldwide scale. All plants and forests must be destroyed. Wars, so as to ensure maximum slaughter. They refer to humanity as a chicken breeding farm. They destroy humanity with drugs; they have contaminated our drinking water (it has been doctored with medication); our food is also contaminated and our clothes too from the fancy washing powders that we use (that is why everyone is getting ill and they don't know why). Thirst on a worldwide scale, for eg.. Euphrates to be dried up because of Turkey, which will lead to a confrontation with Iran/Syria. Hunger, for eg., Russia was the world's wheat provider, even the U.S.A relied on her. The White Brotherhood ensured that Russia would starve. In Moscow young women give themselves for a plate of food. Homosexuality, the U.S.A being its banner. One can go on and on, but there will be no end then. It is devestating. But do not despair, if you are a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ because He has defeated Satan and the world.

(This is a summarized version and a translation of a tape recording in Greek, from a Greek Orthodox perspective ofcourse, given to me by a Monk at Calvary/Golgotha in Jerusalem, Christmas, 2001. I cannot divulge any names, nor my own because this is a very dangerous subject. You will have to verify the truthfullness of the matter yourself. Please excuse my errors of spelling or other. May God forgive me if I am wrong about any of this, but I do it with honest intentions. God bless you. From a humble follower of our Lord Jesus Christ.)

+++

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." JOHN 16:33

+++

"LORD JESUS CHRIST, HAVE MERCY ON ME."

Louise Brooks exhibit

"Homage to Lulu: 100 Years of Louise Brooks" (November 4, 2006 through January 5, 2007)
an exhibit at the San Francisco Public Library
Main Branch, Fourth Floor, Steve Silver Beach Blanket Babylon Music Center

"Homage to Lulu: 100 Years of Louise Brooks" celebrates the centenary of the silent film star Louise Brooks (1906 - 1985). Now considered an icon of the Jazz Age, Brooks' popularity today rivals that of her more celebrated contemporaries. On display are dozens of vintage objects - including books, magazines, sheet music, postcards, and related ephemera - which tell the story of her life and films.

Highlights include American and French photoplay editions (the movie tie-in editions of the 1920's), an editorial comic strip explaining the scandalous circumstances behind Brooks' affair with Charlie Chaplin, Brooks' inspired novels, a jumbo-size lobby card, and a full-page newspaper advertisement for "Show Girl" - the Brooks-inspired novel which became a hit stage play and the long-running comic strip "Dixie Dugan."

This exhibit - organized by Thomas Gladysz and the San Francisco-based Louise Brooks Society - coincides with many other events taking place around the San Francisco Bay Area and the world.

Related Events in the Bay Area:

"Celebrating Louise Brooks: An Evening of Rare Films"
Sunday, November 12th at 7:30 p.m.
Balboa Theater (3630 Balboa Street) in San Francisco
-- Peter Cowie, author of the just released Louise Brooks: Lulu Forever, will give a short talk after the screening of rare Louise Brooks films - some not shown in 80 years. Special guests, door prizes, give-aways, and a book signing with Peter Cowie will round out the program. This special event is co-sponsored by The Booksmith (www.booksmith.com) and the Louise Brooks Society (www.pandorasbox.com)

Louise Brooks Birthday Bash
Tuesday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m.
Victoria Theater (2961 16th Street) in San Francisco
-- a screening, live music, birthday cake, and festivities with the cast and crew of "Lulu" - followed by a 10 p.m. staging of of the Wedekind play done as a silent film a la Louise Brooks in "Pandora's Box" - more info at www.victoriatheatre.org/

Screening of the 1926 Louise Brooks flapper comedy, "Love 'Em and Leave 'Em"
Tuesday, November 21st at 7 p.m.
Main Library, Lower Level, Koret Auditorium (100 Larkin Street at Grove)

Lulu play reviewed in NY Times

The New York Times just gave a glowing review to "Lulu," a Louise Brooks-inspired silent stage play which was performed at the New York International Fringe Festival. The play will next be performed at the Victoria Theater in San Francisco starting September 7th. (see www.victoriatheatre.org/) Jason Zinoman wrote in Saturday's New York Times:

"The Silent Theater Company of Chicago is dedicated to the idea that the theater doesn't need the spoken word, which it proves with panache in its first production, Lulu, an ingeniously staged version of the Louise Brooks 1929 silent film Pandora's Box.

Stylishly directed by Tonika Todorova, this dreamlike play without words is about an insatiable hedonist who leaves death in her tracks. It opens with a wild freak show - peopled by a bearded lady, a dwarf and a man on stilts - dressed and lighted in a noirishly severe black and white, like the cover of a 1920's scandal sheet burst to life. Last to enter is the knockout showgirl Lulu (Kyla Louise Webb), a good-time girl who is clearly bad news.

In the seasoned hands of Ms. Brooks - whose black bob, imitated here, may be the most famous haircut in film history - the role inspired oceans of critical drooling. Kenneth Tynan once wrote that she was "the only star actress I can imagine either being enslaved by or wanting to enslave."

The charismatic Ms. Webb, who wears a blankly innocent expression, letting her jitterbugging body do the seducing, may not bring on such dark thoughts, but her pursuit of unbridled pleasure is so persuasive that you are sure that after the show she will seduce the rest of the cast members and then break all their hearts.

Backed by the moody piano of Isaiah Robinson, this coolly stylized presentation, which could benefit from a few more tech rehearsals, communicates a remarkable amount of plot - in a few crisply designed scenes that slip back and forth between erotic and macabre.

The glamorous Lulu is a reminder of how effective the great silent performers were in their ability to cut directly to the heart of a scene, something Billy the Mime also accomplishes superbly. If you don't have the crutch of language, you need to be able to tell a story with discipline and clarity, and these wordless artists developed a vocabulary every bit as articulate as that of any playwright in the Fringe. They are particularly eloquent with comedy and horror, two areas in which the theater often lags behind film. When was the last play you saw that was really scary or made you explode in belly laughs?

Unlike talking actors, who generally shun the grand gesture as hammy, these silent performers are willing to go for the jugular. They treat their limitation in speech as an opportunity to exploit the rest of their repertory, which may be the reason that their shows seem bolder, faster and meaner than any others I saw this week. Silence, in an odd way, has liberated them."

For more about the Chicago-based Silent Theatre visit www.silenttheatre.com/. You can even watch a silent trailer of the play - with intertitles.

Hello there!! I'm new to this tribe, wanted to pop by n say hi and ask a question

I am doing a photoshoot soon and have hair and dress ideas but have no clue about appropriate shoes. I can't seem to find any good pictures either. There will be 2 styles of pictures, the first is gonna be tough girl, like bonny n clyde. the second is gonna be flapper/cabaret style. Also, any advice on where to get the clothes and shoes for a reasonable price would be great. (I am in Sacramento.) I'm a single mom, so the less I spend the better as the shoot is a trade for cd shoot.

Thank you all!!

June 3rd: HaPpY BirthDaY Josephine Baker!!!

1906 Josephine Baker, dancer/singer/Parisian night club owner, b. St. Lous, MO, USA. d. April 12, 1975, Paris, France. (Cerebral hemorrhage). né: Frida Josephine McDonald . Called the 'Black Venus' by an adoring French public, Josephine was the daughter of laundress Carrie McDonald and musician Eddie Carson. As a child, she would dance on the streets of St. Louis for whatever nickels and dimes the passersby would throw her. In 1921, at just age 15, she was both working as a chorus girl on the St. Louis stage, and married to a Pullman porter named Baker. In 1923, at age 17, feeling the extreme racial discrimation of St. Louis, she ran away from both St. Louis and Baker. She ran fairly far. Her first job in Paris was in La Revue Negre, following which, she was accepted as a chorine at the famed Folies Bergere, as a member of their all-black revue. In 1925, at the Folies Bergere, she first performed her famous banana dance. The Folies Bergere patrons loved it and her fame grew. Later, Janet Flanner, a "New Yorker" magazine correspondent would write: "Her magnificent dark body, a new model to the French, proved for the first time that black was beautiful." And, Pablo Picasso (writing of her work in the Folies-Bergere would write: "Tall, coffee skin, ebony eyes, legs of paradise, a smile to end all smiles." Unbelievably, during U.S. Senator Joe McCarthy's communist "witch hunt" era, she became persona non grata in the United States. Renouncing her American citizenship, in 1937, she became a citizen of France. In 1961, France awarded her their highest civilian award, making her a member of 'The Legion of Honor'. Her life was a full one. She refused to perform in clubs that practiced racial segregation. During her lifetime, she adopted 11 children of different races, religions, and nationalities, all of whom lived in her home (she was very protective of them) and all of whom loved her. She once had a rejected (and dejected) suitor kill himself at her feet. In 1928, her husband/manager 'Count' Pepito di Abatino dueled Andrew Czolovodi, a Hungarian calvary officer, over Josephine in St. Stephen's cemetery in Budapest. The duel lasted only 10 minutes, ending when di Abatino was scratched by Czolovodi's blade. During World War II, she worked as a spy for the French resistance. In the late 1960's, aging, and with a changing world, financial difficulties became troubling. In 1968, she stopped performing. She accepted a home in Monaco from Princess Grace (Kelly) who had learned of her financial distress. All told, Josephine was married five times; First to 'Willie Baker' (1920), 'Count' Pepito di Abatino' (? ca 1926), then to 'Jean Lion' (1937), next to 'Joe Bouillon' (1947) whom she divorced, and finally to 'Robert Brady' (1973) also ending in divorce. In 1974, Josephine performed once more, at Monaco's summer ball, to great acclaim. That same year, she traveled to New York City for a week long stage performances in the show 'An Evening with Josephine Baker On April 10, 1975, Josephine was in a Paris revue celebrating her half-century on the stage, when she suffered a severe stroke and went into a coma. She never regained consciousness. Her funeral was held in Paris, and she was buried in Monaco. Her haunting theme song "Two Loves Have I (both of them are you)", remains popular to music lovers the world around.

Margaret Mead - Flapper ??

Margaret Mead
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mead

Margaret Mead

Margaret Mead (December 16, 1901 – November 15, 1978) was an American cultural anthropologist.
Margaret Mead was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in nearby Doylestown, Pennsylvania by a university professor father and a social activist mother. She graduated from Barnard College in 1923 and received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1929. She set out in 1925 to do her fieldwork in Polynesia. In 1926 Mead joined the American Museum of Natural History, New York City, as assistant curator, eventually serving as its curator of ethnology from 1946 to 1969. During World War II, Mead served as executive secretary of the National Research Council's Committee on Food Habits. In addition, she taught at Columbia University as adjunct professor starting in 1954. Following the example of her instructor Ruth Benedict, Mead concentrated her studies on problems of child rearing, personality, and culture. (Source: The Columbia Encyclopedia, Fifth Edition, 1993.)
There has been disagreement with certain findings in her first book, Coming of Age in Samoa (1928), based on research she conducted as a graduate student; and her published works based on time on the Sepik and on Manus, as literate people from the cultures she described have challenged some of her observations. But her position as a pioneering anthropologist—one who wrote clearly and vividly enough for the general public to read and learn from her works—remains firm.
Margaret Mead was married three times, first to Luther Cressman and then to two fellow anthropologists, Reo Fortune and Gregory Bateson, with whom she had a daughter, also an anthropologist, Mary Catherine Bateson. Her granddaughter, Sevanne Margaret Kassarjian, is a stage and television actress who works professionally under the name Sevanne Martin.
She died in New York City on November 15, 1978, aged 76.

Flapper Mania
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Chateau/6060/museum.html

Eighty years have passed since the era known as The Roaring Twenties, but Americaís fascination with the fashion and literature of that time has never waned. High School students across the country are still devouring F. Scott Fitzgeraldís THE GREAT GATSBY and thanks to Miramax, Chicago The Motion Picture has made Fosseís 1975 hit Broadway musical available to all.Watch the Chicago Trailer

Bob Fosseís CHICAGO is based on the play, The Brave Little Woman, written by Chicago Tribune reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins. Her play was inspired by the sensationalized murder trials of women in Chicago's Cook County and was first produced in 1926.

One of Nancy Carrollís first California appearances was as ROXIE HART in an early stage production of the play Chicago . A dashingly handsome young actor named Clark Gable also appeared as one of the male reporters during Nancy's stint as Roxie. In 1927 Chicago was made into a silent movie starring Ginger Rogers as Roxie. But the Chicago everyone knows and loves today didn't appear until several decades later. In 1975, Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb and John Kander breathed new life into the characters and script. As a musical, Chicago would garner numerous awards, have a long run and make a strong return to Broadway more than two decades later. The stage musical was so popular that Hollywood moguls decided the time had come for Chicago to be made into a major motion picture with an all-star cast, thus, Chicago the movie. Starring Renee Zellweger as Roxie Hart, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly and Richard Gere as Billy Flynn, the movie has been an incredible success. Once again the Roaring Twenties are back. Why, Iíve already seen Louise Brooks look-alikes emerging from salons, and spaghetti~strapped dresses with bottom fringe, hanging in boutiques ! As a matter of fact, among the loveliest of prom gowns Iíve seen this season is a gown that easily could have been worn in the 1920s.

And speaking of the fashion of the era, for those visiting New York City or Long Island this year, you will not want to miss these two special exhibits.

The Twenties -- an incredible era in our country, historically and culturally. One of the most comprehensive websites I've discovered about The Twenties is JAZZ AGE CULTURE a creation of Dr. Katherine Nichols, Professor of Women's Studies at Pittsburgh State University. You will find links to everything 1920s -- jazz, fashion, bootlegging, social change, politics, crime, literature, decor and much, much more. There is even a link there that will bring you to a site which will teach you how the Charleston is done!

Flapper nudie photo's

I was looking around on e-bay at 1920's photo's for sale. 1/2 of them were of semi nude flappers. Now I'm a straight, married, unexciting lady and I found them absolutely ADORABLE! The women were all slightly pudgy, and 1/2 of them were just showing their buns or flashing a boobie. I'm wondering about the men that these pictures were made for. Did they consider this porn? The pictures are so sweet and innocent by today's standards! It just cracks me up.

Adore! Frisky Frolics, The Paper Dolls, The Scenic Sisters this Sunday @ Amnesia

ADORE!

That is a word that that in my humble opinion, dear reader, has fallen into sad disuse. Do you remember what it’s like? That moonstruck sentiment that induces in one a starry eyed state of near innocent appreciation; wrapping one’s surrounding spheres of sensation in a soft focus lens and swelling the ol thumpity thump to thrice its size. Forget your calcified urbane orientation for a night, come to Amnesia this Sunday, and surrender to complete and total adoration (and delight) of two wonderful musical anomalies and one pair of feisty footed sisters that our fair city is lucky to hold within its flimsy bounds. Ah, adoration!

First join us early for a screening of Alejandro Adams 2004 Documentary: “The Frisky Frolics: No Kitsch Intended”. A loving portrait of the anachronistic tin pan alley troupe, this film is described as “A Musical. A Comedy. A Documentary. No Matter what you call it this is the feel good movie of the year.”

Then prepare yourself for a hot to trot jazz era evening of acts that, taking a cue from the 20’s and 30’s will demonstrate that even today the cure for the modern condition can lie in a strutting rhythm, a sweet melody sung sincerely, hot tap dancing, and snappy duds :

The Paper Dolls: Velveeta voiced ukulele vixens, The Paper Dolls, will strut, strum and plunk their way into that place in your heart you thought had died when Pee Wee Herman fell from grace. The hot three-part harmonies delight your ears while their charming frames wear a fashionable feast for your eyes. Don’t miss their spectacular debut of a new “dummy” act!

The Scenic Sisters are the cutest little buttons ever to be unfastened. We’re excited for them to grace out dancefloor with their tap dancing scene stealing glamour!

The Frisky Frolics are everyone’s favorite good time fellas. This delightful combo of dapper chaps, voted Best band for the New Depression by the SFBG, is headed up by the uke slinging Rick Quisol, the original Dimestore Dandy with a canzoo attitude, These tin pan alley troubadours are guaranteed to bring a grin to even the sourest of pusses playing hotcha tunes that lifted many a spirit through the dusty days of the 20’s and 30’s.

Put on your best duds and clear your dance cards! The champagne will flow this night!

What!?
Frisky Frolics
The Paper Dolls
The Scenic Sisters
Screening of the Frisky Frolics Documentary @ 8 pm

I'm getting married this September and I just wanted to share my dress. It's era 1920's sleevleess cream silk I got on ebay for $60! I altered it just a bit to fit me better and make it a little more fancy. I kept with the 20's style of drop waist etc. I made the veil in a 20's style as well and I plan to finger wave my hair if possible. I thought some of you would appreciate the vintage image.
I also made our invitations with an image from some 20's sheet music. I'll post the image in the photo album.

HELEN KANE & BETTY BOOP

*********************
HELEN KANE
Boop-Poop-a-doop!
*********************

Helen Kane was the obvious model for
the Betty Boop cartoons, even if the
judge did rule against her - she sued the
creators of the cartoon series and the
case was in the court system for some-
thing like two years!!

Helen Kane aka Betty Boop Collection
www.angelfire.com/retro2/vi...er06/HelenKane.htm

Kane, Helen

(b 1904; d September 1966) Baby-doll singer, famous as the ‘boop-boop-a-doop’ girl. Her little-girlish voice with its Bronx accent was stolen by the creators of cartoon character Betty Boop. She appeared in a Marx Brothers revue; put forward by conductor Paul Ash, she sang ‘That’s My Weakness Now’ (by Bud Green and Sam H. Stept) in show A Night In Spain ’27; the show flopped after 22 performances but Kane was a hit, signed for a week at the Paramount that stretched to six weeks, then to a recording contract with Victor.

In the musical show Good Boy ’28 she sang ‘I Wanna Be Loved By You’ (by Harry Ruby and Bert Kalmar); she allegedly disliked the song and had to be talked into it by impresario Oscar Hammerstein, then threw in the phrase ‘boop-boop-a-doop’ which made her famous. On her first two recordings the music director was Nat Shilkret, on the rest Leonard Joy. Her technical skills, timing, enunciation and intonation, were very good, but nearly all the 22 songs she recorded 1928-30 were meant to sound like flapper novelties (‘Is There Anything Wrong In That?’ was meant to be suggestive). An exception was Rodgers & Hart’s ‘If I Knew You Better’. It was a good attempt at a ballad, and one of the last records she made; maybe she was tired of being typed as a ninny.

Inevitable she went to Hollywood, and appeared in Paramount pictures Nothing But The Truth, Sweetie, Pointed Heels, Dangerous Nan McGrew (played the lead and recorded the title song), Heads Up, Flying High, Young Men Of Manhattan and Paramount On Parade, all 1929-30.

Max and Dave Fleischer’s Talkatoon series in 1930 featured Betty Boop, who had big eyes, a very short skirt and was considered salacious for the time; the voiceover was done by Ann Rothschild or Mae Questal (experts disagree). Kane sued the Fleischers for stealing her stuff, but the lawyers won, convincing the court that Kane has stolen her ‘boop-boop-a-doop’ from a black singer, Baby Esther. Her career faded with the Great Depression; she appeared in flop show Shady Lady ’33 but made no more films. In 1950 she recorded a track for the 18-year-old Debbie Reynolds to mime in film Three Little Words, a film biopic of Kalmar and Ruby. She died of cancer a few hours after seeing the film on TV.

Paper Dolls, Rudy LaPelle, Gaucho Gypsy Jazz This Sunday!

HOT JAZZ SWINGS ON!

Join us this Sunday for an enchanting evening of 20’s and 30’s jazz with THE PAPER DOLLS, RUDY LAPELLE and GAUCHO GYPSY JAZZ preceded by a screening of the ever-pertinent Chaplin farce, THE GREAT DICTATOR.

The Paper Dolls are a trio of fresh-faced fillies with silken voices strumming three ukeleles as if they were the heart strings of cherubic cupid himself. These sweet tarts takes on popular tunes from the 20’s and 30’s will transport you back to the day where dreams could be bought for a dime a dance.

Rumor has it that Rudy Lapelle was born from the horn of a victrola. He’s a slick crooner that will make you swoon with toe tapping tunes by the likes of Cab Calloway, Fats Waller and Bing Crosby. Rob “The Romancer” Reich will accompany Rudy, tickling the ivories into total abandon. Ladies, look out for that swing!

Later in the evening Gaucho will treat us to the jumping Gypsy Jazz delights of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Cameron Shaw (aka Rudy LaPelle) will lend his pipes to Gaucho’s fresh take on these dynamic tunes from the masters of “jazz manouche”.

In Chaplin’s first “talkie” he takes the bull of his time by the horns, lampooning Hitler and Mussolini in his bittersweet farce “The Great Dictator”. On the eve of the US’ entry to the war and in defiance to broad discouragement Chaplin produced this strong political statement personally. Playing dual roles as a humble Jewish barber and Adenoid Hynkel, the ranting dictator of Tomania, Chaplin combined trademark slapstick with sharp political satire.

What!?
Chaplin’s, The Great Dictator

Bricktops venue in LA is closing...

Bricktops, the 20s revival club in Los Angeles hosted by Vaginal Davis which has run for almost three years on Friday nights is coming to an end because the Parlour Club, the venue where Bricktops takes page, has been sold. It will continue through the end of July, so make sure you visit while you have a chance. Hopefully Bricktops will reopen in a new venue, but there's no guarantee, and you only have a few more opportunities to catch the club in its current venue.
The club's website is http://www.parlourclub.com and there's also info at http://www.vaginaldavis.com/new.shtml

FLIRT! celebrates personal freedom and rebellion
on Saturday, July 9th with a 'Flappers FLIRT-easy!' theme
of fashion, burlesque/cabaret entertainment, and good
old-fashioned indiscretion!. The Roaring 20s exemplified
daring, bold behavior -- it's when petting parties
were born and the ethics of the Founding Fathers were shucked!
So what better time to let loose in the scandalous fashion of
flappers, Flaming Youth, and gangsters. Think garters & fringe,
plunging necklines, dapper hats, and sleek pinstripes --expressive wear to break
the ice and channel your devious inner flirt!

FLIRT is a sensually playful party with seductive leanings!
Cut loose in a luscious dance lounge club,
just voted SFWeekly’s “Best Hidden Club” 2005
as it transforms into an intimate party setting.
Dress provocatively, flirt, mingle & tease!
It's all about unwinding & flirting at a nightspot
in a hassle-free setting with like-minded sirens.

Prepare to have all five senses fully engaged !
The dress code is fetish, lingerie, or sensually creative attire -
Whet your appetite with a champagne and
hors d’oeuvres reception that will help get you in high spirit.
DJs Femme Mystique and Tristan of Wicked City
will be spinning seductive dance music -- a mixture of
ambient chillout to dance-pop and electro.

Also audiovisual stimulation
by FLIRT’s talented cast of fabulous
femme performers presenting dance and exotica.
The show begins at 10:30pm, so
make sure to arrive early for maximal enjoyment!

Although this is not a sex party,
play and voyeurism are permissible and encouraged.
There are semi-private places to comfortably lounge
and make-out, such as the new cozy fetish playpen in front.
If this type of party is new to you, consider it a
non-intimidating introduction with a goodly dose
of cheeky entertainment, dancing, and flirty friendliness.

Discounted online tickets are available while they last

whoo! Kiki biography

I just received in the mail 'The Education of a French Model, Kiki's Memoirs'. yay!
So far it's fantastic...there are wonderful drawings and photographs of her during the ten plus years she spent in Paris modeling.

Has anyone else read this autobiography? Are there other (auto)biographies you can recommend?

I also just finished 'This Must Be the Place: Memoirs of Montparnasse by Jimmie "the Barman" Charters, As Told to Morrill Cody'. It's wonderful, a really excellent read.

I also highly recommend, 'Being Geniuses Together 1920-1930
by Robert McAlmon, Kay Boyle'. Now *that's* a great autobiography.

but yes...I'm always looking for another read pertaining to the flapper era. any recommendations? thanks!

A Flapper's Appeal to Parents

"A Flapper's Appeal to Parents"
by Ellen Welles Page

Published in Outlook, December 6, 1922, p. 607.

If one judges by appearances, I suppose I am a flapper. I am within the age limit. I wear bobbed hair, the badge of flapperhood. (And, oh, what a comfort it is!). I powder my nose. I wear fringed skirts and bright-colored sweaters, and scarfs, and waists with Peter Pan collars, and low-heeled "finale hopper" shoes. I adore to dance. I spend a large amount of time in automobiles. I attend hops, and proms, and ball-games, and crew races, and other affairs at men's colleges. But none the less some of the most thoroughbred superflappers might blush to claim sistership or even remote relationship with such as I. I don't use rouge, or lipstick, or pluck my eyebrows. I don't smoke (I've tried it, and don't like it), or drink, or tell "peppy stories." I don't pet. And, most unpardonable infringement of all the rules and regulations of Flapperdom, I haven't a line!

But then--there are many degrees of flapper. There is the semi-flapper; the flapper; the superflapper. Each of these three main general divisions has its degrees of variation. I might possibly be placed somewhere in the middle of the first class. I think every one realizes by this time that there has been a marked change in our much-discussed tactics. Jazz has been modified, and probably will continue to be until it has become obsolete. Petting is gradually growing out of fashion through being overworked.

Yes, undoubtedly our hopeless condition is improving. But it was not for discussing these aspects of the case that I began this article. I want to beg all you parents, and grandparents, and friends, and teachers, and preachers--you who constitute the "older generation"--to overlook our shortcomings, at least for the present, and to appreciate our virtues. I wonder if it ever occurred to any of you that it required brains to become and remain a successful flapper? Indeed it does! It requires an enormous amount of cleverness and energy to keep going at the proper pace. It requires self-knowledge and self-analysis. We must know our capabilities and limitations. We must be constantly on the alert. Attainment of flapperhood is a big and serious undertaking! "Brains?" you repeat, skeptically. "Then why aren't they used to better advantage?" That is exactly it! And do you know who is largely responsible for all this energy being spent in the wrong directions?

(read the rest of the article here: http://faculty.pittstate.edu/~knichols/flapperappeal.html )

Has anyone heard of Lee Morse? She is tops. She sings like no one else!! Her recordings are late 20's & early 30's mostly. If Olive Oil could sing...I think she'd sound like Lee!!

I am a big Ruth Etting fan....but Lee is now my favorite singer. There is only 1 cd available of her recordings called "Lee Morse: A Musical Portrait"...and there is a beautiful web-site dedicated to her where you can hear some of her music!!

Lee Morse -Echoes of a Songbird <http://www.leemorse.com/>

Please give her a listen...you will never forget her voice once you hear her sing!!

Tingle Tangle! The Jazz Age this Sunday!

The Jazz Age is kicking and screaming again this Sunday at your friendly neighborhood Tingle Tangle, where we swing open the door of our trampy red shack for all those lovers of steamy horned jazz, cheap bubbly and old fashioned frisky antics. This line up’s a doozy kids – so hike up your stocking and hold on to your hats, it’s gonna get real hot!

HOT BRASS JAZZ!
Lucky 7
PROVOCATIVE PEELERS!
Simone De La Getto
Cherry Lix and Vidalia Paradise of the Diamond Daggers
Frauline Fritzy
SWOONY CROONING!
Rudy La Pelle
plus
FLICKERING FILMS AND BLACK AND BLUE TOONS!

HOT BRASS JAZZ!
Tingle Tangle is thrilled to welcome back the most sizzling 7 piece brass outfit this side of 1936, LUCKY 7. These boys will transport you to the hot strutting basement of your dreams with their brassy takes on such luminaries of the Jazz Age as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.

PROVOCATIVE PEELERS!
Whoa boy! There’s no one better to put the wow back into wowza than San Franny’s favorite ebony ecdysiast SIMONE DE LA GHETTO. She’s the queen of the quake, the Salome of the shake. She knows how to squeeze sweat from a stone. Those faint of heart or week-kneed be warned!

CHERRY LIX and VIDALIA PARADISE grace the boards again with two new numbers after causing fits of delirious tremers with the intoxicating takes on the art of the tease. Look out, these Diamond Daggers have sharpened their shimmies and shakes to leave a lasting impression.

We have a debut too by the mysterious vixen, FRAULINE FRITZY. Her Johnny’s got a birthday and oh boy does she have a surprise for him!

MOONY CROONER!
Some say RUDY LA PELLE was born from the horn of victrola. He’s a sweet lipped slick crooner that will make you swoon with silky tunes by the likes of Cab Calloway and Bing Crosby. And ladies, look out for that swing!

FLICKERING FILMS AND TAWNY TOONS!
Some of the best flashing lights to have ever flickered in a frame.

So put on your fancy pants or don your devilish dress and come on down to the Tingle Tangle for a fiery fun and tumultuous time!

It's called I, FATTY and is written in the first-person, and you feel like you're there with this great but sadly misunderstood film superstar as he tells you the real story about Hollywood and what really happened ...

You flappers sure are quiet!

Anyho...I'm just getting into 20s and 30s chanteuses. I'm likin' Ruth Etting and Annette Hanshaw. Anyone got any advice on flapper-friendly music? You know...the kinda stuff that makes you drink gin fizzes, dance on tables and say , "Isn't this divine?"

zarah leander

anyone ever heard of zarah leander?
i was watching the history channel one day. there was a 5 part series called "hitlers women" (eva braun - his mistress turned wife at the zero hour, leni riefenstahl - the contraversial director who directed hitlers most famous propaganda movie "triumph of the will", magdalene goebbels - joseph goebbels wife, winifred wagner - adopted daughter of richard wagner, the anti-semetic composer that inspired hitler, and almost hitlers wife, and zarah leander.....)
i am not a nazi, nor am i even fascinated by anything about nazi culture. i just like learning about history and these documentaries were engrossing. especially the one about zarah.
she was a rising movie star and singer when the nazi party took power. she had a chance to come to hollywood and try to make it in the U.S. or she had a sure shot in germany as long as she played by the nazi party's rules. she chose germany and became a tool of propaganda, churning out movies and songs meant to boost the morale of german officers. there are stories of german officers blasting her music in concentration camps. but a lot of people claim some of the messages about staying strong and coming out on top were really secretly meant for the jews. of course when the nazi party fell, so did zarah.
though her character might be questionable, her music is so absolutely amazing and spans the late 20s to 30s. its very jazzy, and some songs remind me of flappers (which is why i posted this here) i have looked and looked for any american stars who sound remotely like her and have come up with nothing.
